Finally get to use my new toy!!!
Sooooo last week I took at trip to Columbus Ohio and got myself a new KMG!!!! I've been debating a long time on what to do. Being in the welding industry most my life I wanted to build one. But I don't have time to make as many knives as I'd like let alone build a nice grinder. I came home and assembled everything as fast as I could. Then I realized that there wasn't a 2x72 belt within 400 miles of my place so for the last week all I could do was walk into the shop and look at it! Well I finally got my Tru-Grit order today!! These machines are incredible! I had a blade that needed ground so I thru on a new 50 grit ceramic belt and started movin some metal. It's amazing how using the right tool for the job helps in so many ways. I can actually use a 400 grit belt, get a beautiful finish and not ruin my heat treat! Needless to say my wife can't understand why I HAD to buy one... Well now I'm positive why I did! Please don't waste your money on a 1x30, then a 2x42 then a grizzly then whatever comes after that. Just save, save, save or hope you get lucky like I did and get a sweet bonus from work

I remember un-crating my new KMG a year ago and had nearly the same anxiety, not due to not having belts but having a Baldor that had no feet and was wired the wrong direction! After re-wiring to reverse direction (easy by the way) and building my own bracket for the motor face I was in business! That was a great moment! Enjoy!

I do believe that I will go the DIY route this winter. I mean, I'd love to just go buy one but on my salary, it'd be years. Glad you were able to get what you needed and look forward to seeing what comes of it.

Congratulation on your KMG I built mine and added a few things I wanted changed for personal reasons yet it is still a KMG . as once said yesterday I could not spell Knife maker today I R one it changed many things that I did before as I built knives with minimal tools and it took forever now I have streamlined my work space and have the ability to make a more productive day out of knife making and it is much easier on me as well .
