ATS-34 Quench question
I have been doing a plate quench on my ATS-34 to what I think is good results. Now I have done some casual research and found that some sites, some manufacturers etc, recommend an oil quench. That would be difficult using a foil wrap and smaller quantity of oil. I guess if I had a 5 gal bucket of the stuff I could cut the end of the pack and drop it in- assuming you don't warp the blade doing that, but then how you gonna agitate it? If we solve those issues, then you get to the boogers- which oil? is it better?
Either way, what is the concensus around here as to ATS-34 quenching- Plate or Oil? Pros vs. cons. Plate quench eliminates the mess ! It needs a bit more than still air, moving air is better , oil is better yet. But plate quench is about as good as oil.

An oil quench is used by folks who make thick sections from ATS34. Especially when there is a sharp transition between a thick and thin section. Not knife parts.
