First home treated SS blade- help
-well, got me some quench plates - 2 x 1 5/8" x 4" x 15" steel with machined surfaces.
Got some SS foil and PBC powder ordered as well as some blade steel- I am excited! For my first home treated SS, I chose 440-C. I figured it was an old standard that I could count on all you wonderful fellows out there having a lot of experience with and would be more than willing to help me - So, what works, what don't? I want a good working blade, a little on the harder side, say HR-60 or so. Can I get that with 440-C with consistency? If not, what can I expect out of it? Anybody willing to share their recipes for 440-C? I would be glad to stiff you on the fee but give you all the credit Thanks- __________________ Dennis "..good judgement comes from experience, experience comes from poor judgement.." -Gary McMahan, a cowboy poet and good dancer. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/p...24112090995576 |

440C would be a little brittle at 60 Rc in my opinion.
