Stiff Horn and City Knife Question

Steve, are bolsters (either one piece or two pieces) soldered or just precision fit by either the slot (one piece) or perfectly flattened (two piece)?

I solder, with one pin, the slotted ones, but just pin, with 4 pins, the two piece bolsters. Bob does not solder the slotted ones. It works well for me this way. Be sure you grind away the tang, under the slotted one to allow neutralizing of any possible flux that can be trapped under there by boiling in a mixture of water, baking soda and a little dish soap. Then, as Mike Lovett taught me, spray in a little gun oil, we use FP10, by "Shooter's Choice."

Hey Steve! I finally broke down a picked up a sonic cleaner. Any suggestions as to a mixture to use in it. I've been thinking of trying different solutions. One I thought of using would be a solution using some of the neutralizing solution we use in our etchings using the stencil's. I have a good supply here. I understand that it is formulated to kill the acid in the etching process. Soooo-May Be!

Going to try it with some soldering acid to see what kind of reaction it gets.

Well I I tried it and it seems to have done a Good Job!!!

Still using the FP-10 just in case! I mixed it 10-1 as per instructions on the bottle, and used distilled water rather than tap water. So far-so good.

You might try baking soda and water a 20% solutions is recommended for most acids. It works great on solder acid. Also you cna use TSP , trisodium phosphate you can get it at any hardware store it is good for nuetralizing the etching solution after etching damascus it cleans it very well.
But baking soda and water is what I have used for years no problems and cheap.
