A rivet question

Okay, how do you guys do your rivets? I found the right siz drill bit for my rod, but still unsure how you do the rivets. Do you just leave the rivets ontop of the wood, and not flush?? Help would be appreciated, thanks.

All the knives I've seen with actual rivets as opposed to just pins, have been rounded above the handle surface though the washer part might be countersunk. For pins you can leave them proud, but it's more common to grind those even.

So countersunk, is when it's flush with the scale?? I'm gonna try to do that.
