new to me Drill Press - Turret drill press

Benchtop Bergmaster Turret Drill

I just acquired this strange looking drill press from a craigslist add. It measures about 42" tall, the work table is 8" x 12" with drain channels leading to a screened drain in the back of the table. There are five 1/4" Jacobs Chucks and one end mill adaptor. The thing auto indexes when you lift up on the quill handle. The whole drill head raises and lowers on the dual columns to adjust for work-piece size and the quill or drilling depth is about eight inches. It's really pretty heavy, Maybe 120-150 lbs?

I need to go over it to clean and lube, maybe paint, replace a frayed power cord, etc...Seller didn't charge extra for the rust! I'm very intrigued about this little machine

Seller said he's had it for about 30 years, and bought a milling machine a few years back, so this piece was extraneous.

Anyhow I figured some of you tool hounds would enjoy seeing this little animal!

Has anyone ever seen or used one of these things before! I'd like to find a maintenance manual for it, but I haven't been able to find a model# on it.

I have worked in a few ancient machine shops and I have never seen anything like it! Its great. Love the multiple chucks, would save time changing bits for repetitive work.
Nice score!

Alex, I have to say that looks like one bad ass drill press! Side pics show how stout she is! Hope you get her working and when you do post a quick video. Looks like a keeper!

Also, found this video on one just like yours and looks pretty cool! Enjoy!

Thank you gentleman... I felt like a kid waiting for Christmas morning at work all day yesterday! I monkeyed with it a bit today. found out the coil spring that keeps the quill up is adjustable (and makes a scary noise when you loosen the keeper screw that lets the thing unwind...quickly. I almost cussed, well ok I did cuss) but I got it reset non-the-worse-for-wear...

it runs very quite. I found it has a rubber drive belt on the back, with two double gears - high and low speed.

I'll post more when I get it put in the shop.

I've used Burgmasters both large and small in machine shops. I had one just like yours until I recently sold all my machinery.

Many years ago, I worked for a company that bought one of the large first generation NC models.

That looks like a Burgmaster 0B. Sweet machine. You can set up all of your most-commonly used bits and then some. I had one at the shop I worked. Beware, they are obsolete and if you can pick up a spare for parts you will be gtg. Its is also not a machine you want to "horse" or strong-arm any bores with. Its not delicate, but it will break if not used respectfully.

I'm jealous!

Bob Dozier has four or five turret drills in his St Paul, AR shop. Works great.
