Great Wood for Handles

Hi, I just wanted to pass on that there is great stabelized wood for sale right here on
the site in classifieds by David Peterson. I've made three purchases in the last month
and its all been the best wood I've bought in the last four years. He shipped fast and
always throwed in a surpize pc each time, The figuring has been exhabition grade
and all I've had to do is shape, sand to 600 and buff. Jim Graham

I agree Dave is great to deal with and his wood has always been top of the line.

Sadly, Dave is gonna stop selling wood . It's costing him money, and that wasn't the idea when he got started, so he's giving it up.

It's too bad too... My very best wood has ALL come from Dave. He cuts it a special way for me and now I gotta do it myself (I stink with a table saw).

I exchanged some email with him last week. He said he'll be posting some 'box deals' on wood in the weeks to come to clear out his stock. Keep your eyes pealed. I know I will.

This must be what it feels like when a junkie's dealer goes up the river.

Hey guys. I heard about this thread and had to take a look. I appreciate the great feedback...ALOT. I've always liked selling to you guys and this thread is the reason why. There's just so many great people here. You're awesome.

I didn't want to hijack this thread from Jim, so I made this one below to explain a little.

Dave's right! Some time back I saw some Maple Blocks 2 dyed green and 2 dyed blue and I put them in my Auction Sentry software (use it while I'm out in the shop - can't afford to watch the computer). Well, I won all 4 using the price I loaded into my software (figuring it's true value) and I thought wow.......I got a bargain. Found out it was Dave and then I felt like a theif because the winning bid did not EVEN come close to what I put in my software, the real value.

I have been considering selling some of my stabilized woods - I do sell some on another site. I figure I have $2,000 or $3,000 worth of Curly Koa, bias cut Black Palm (there's a back breaker), bias cut Red Palm as well as unstabilized woods and other stabilized woods.

One of these days - it takes time for me at least and I only sand it down to 100 grit on a 4 x 36 - no polishing or making it look nice like Dave does . I just spritz it with water to see what it would look like when finished because that side is most likely to go against the handle anyway when it's cut to size and/or bookmatched. I'm so backlogged I just haven't had the time to list anything.

Dave's number one with the stabilized woods, I've purchased stabilized wood from him here, great cedar burl. Those puukko knives were great because that wood made them so unique!

Dave's right, unless you have access to harvest your own wood or professionally stabilize your own, it's tough to break even - especially on eBay.

Sorry to hear that Dave, BUT, I do indeed know what you are saying.
