Las Vegas

The show was very nice, lots of knives and even more guns. Met a few folks that I'd only known on the forums. Got to see some old friends. Spent some time in the Guild booth. It was a short, but enjoyable trip. Not very warm, even rained a lot of the time. Good roads all the way home.

Steve,

Speaking of guns, have you ever matched a knife to a specific gun as a set? For example, using the same handle material as the stock and/or having the knife engraved to match the engraving on the gun? In R.L. Wilson's book, "Steel Canvas," there is a cased Ruger rifle that had a "matching" Steve Hoel folder in the case. It was made up for a Safari Club Intern'l auction. Anyway, it was really good looking.

Nope, never done that before. It would be a neat project, for sure.

Hi Steve,

It was nice to meet and talk with you at the show. Thanks for taking the time to look at my folders and giving the encouraging words on my work. I'm looking forward to hearing from Mr. Shadley soon.

Dave

Great to meet you, Dave. did you contact Gene? Give him a call and ask for an application form. Hope I told you to do that. Keep up the good work!

My mistake - after looking at the book again last night, the rifle was a Winchester Model 70, not a Ruger. Interestingly, it says that the accessories (cleaning rods, screw#######, patch and oil canisters) were engraved by Steve Lindsay. Not sure who did the engraving on the rifle and folder. The set sold for $201,000 in 1986.

It was good to see you, even if only to say hi.

I went over there for a few hours on Friday morning, but spent the majority of my time in the BUCK booth at the SHOT show.

I will come bow down and say "I'm not worthy" for a little longer in Atlanta if you are going this year.

Alohja, Tom

Hey, I ain't the one selling milllions of knive with Buck!

Thanks you for stopping by the Guild booth and saying hello. It's always great to see you. Seems like, even though it's great to see one another at a show, it's always too hectic to visit very much. Good plan, Georgia is on my mind!

I apologize for not visiting , but my time as a visitor was limited. There were a lot of makers I would have liked to get to but it just didn't happen. I had promised to spend time with Harald Moeller at his table while his wife, mine and another lady went on a shopping break. Even then he didn't get the time out of me that I hoped to give. I also had to get into the supply shopping thing. So, to those I didn't get to, I hope you had a great show. Frank

Totally understand, Frank. Tru Grit was next to the Guild booth, preoccupied to pick up some materials. I just called in an order yesterday. Man, I think my brain stayed in Manti last weekend!
I did get a nice set of mammoth, however. That's about it, not much visiting either.

Many I'd have liked to talk to, but that's how it goes, more times than not. We can do better in Atlanta, maybe....Right! Where ther are fewer knives to look at!! lol

Just got back from the Las Vegas show yesterday. My wife and I took a trip to Death Valley after the show, what an incredible place that is!!!

At any rate just wanted to say it was nice meeting you Steve (and everyone else).

I am fairly new to showing my knives at shows and am continually blown away by how friendly and helpful everyone is. Made many new friends and finally got to put faces to forum names!

See you next year.

Sean
