blade sanding once handle is on
Ha all, been making knives for about a year now and I just finished a bird and trout knife and took the blade to 800 then back down to a 320 finish, I was happy with the appearance of the blade until I put the scales on the knife, which I took to about 800 grit finish, polished and buffed, after further inspection of the blade I do not like the way the sanding lines run, not parallel to each other and does not seam to go with the handle. So my question is how can i sand the blade with the scales on.
Will post some pics tomorrow. Thanks, Carl |

Carl, did you sand the ricasso? The flat space in front of your handle? Sanding the blade with the handle on will be tedious and difficult if you are putting a horizontal grain on it. Is the front of the handle square or rounded?

Carl, please post some pics as there are a few options for you to go with. I mean what is your handle made from? I do not leave sanding marks on my handles so I am confused when you say the handle grain doesn't match the blade grain other than the wood grain doesn't match. Keep in mind the worst thing to happen is you can remove the handle and start over. So you haven't lost the knife.
