Latest Hunters - Keeping it Simple
This was an exercise in fit and finish. I just wanted to make a compact hunter - sort of small game / bird and trout etc. Nothing fancy, just clean and straight.

Looks like a very light and sturdy knife, I've been wanting to do a "Bird and Trout" hunter....
What thickness steel is that? I was going to use 1/16" but I'm not sure if that would be too thin... Gary |

Thanks Gary, The steel was 1/8th inch thick stock to start with. It would be just under that after finishing. Its tapered in both directions - tapered tang, and distal tapered, so its those dimensions only at the ricasso. I feel 1/16th inch thickness is too thin unless you want a flexible blade like a filet knife. I personally think a hunting / field knife would be best between 3/32inch and 1/8th inch thickness. If you apply a nice grind to a thin sharp edge and taper the tang, you would end up with a lightweight balanced knife in the hand. Cheers. Jason.
