Morning Ed. Ask the primary doc's nurse to jump on it. Tell 'em you think the other doc found something because his nurse told you so, but sounded like she was hiding something. Bug them to follow up on how the test result came out. Either they start coming up with solid leads, or figure time to sit down and do the paperwork for the referral.

Keep doing whatever it takes, Craig

Ok, they're playing musical chairs with you. The reason that the specialist's nurse was being evasive is, whether they found anything outside their realm of expertise or not, they want your primary to handle this. This may or may not go over well with your primary. He may feel that the specialist did the testing and it's his responsibility to go over the results with you and you're caught in the middle. At least that's my take on it, hopefully I'm wrong or at least one of those doctors will decide to deal with it.

Doug

This is one of the worst cases of medical misconduct I have heard of in awhile. It would seem that it would border on negligence. I am afraid I would be raising a lot of he** at this point. Good luck to you Ed and prayers coming your way.

Maybe it is time you tell them your lawyer will be contacting them if they do not get their act together and get you the information and referal that you need

Got a message yesterday from my Primary Doc. He has sent all my records, and his notes off to the Mayo Clinic, and has the referral "in process". I have no idea what the procedures, etc. are for getting me to the Mayo, nor how long the "process" takes to get me headed that direction....just hope it's soon.

I've pretty much shut down working in the shop, and seem to spend more and more time on the couch. I've had 3 visits to a Chiropractor, and all I can tell you is that after going to see him, the rest of the day after him working on me are the most pain filled days I've had. He tells me there is a lot of scar tissue on my ribs from the past biopsy surgeries.....but I don't know how much good he's doing me.

Now it's wait and see how long the Mayo referral takes. I'm also a bit worried because the Mayo is not considered a "network provider" by our insurance (TriCare)......we'll have to find out what that means as far as paying for things......I know we can't do it, if it all has to come "out of pocket". It might be a situation where I have to settle for going to Salt Lake City...or somewhere like that, who is within our insurance's "network providers".

Not only is being sick a pain in the rear (and everywhere else)....they make anything beyond a simple visit to a local Doctor's office a mountain of red tape.

I'm happy for you that the process is moving forward, at least. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Tricare will pay for at least most of it.

Doug

Ed,
I'm still sending thoughts and prayers your way also. My Dad had great help from the Mayo Clinic many years ago so I know they can work wonders for people. I'm very disappointed in the way you've been shuffled through the heath care system thus far. I personally don't take much stock in chiropractic treatments and really hope that you get the help you deserve SOON.

This has been my first experience with a Chiropractor. I did it more out of desperation then anything, but my feeling are right there with your's.
I can say that he's been about the most upfront and honest with me out of all the "Doctors" I've dealt with. He told me that if my pain is not at least 50% better after 4 visits (I have the 4th visit on Thursday), then he would recommend me seeing a pain specialist, and would not have me waste any more money on his services.
I'm just waiting to see what/where/how this Mayo referral goes....suppose to hear more today or tomorrow according to the head nurse at the Base.
Thanks for all the support from everyone....I'm still just looking for what I always have been.....just wanna be able to be "me" again.

Ed, it sounds like your chiropractor is at least an honorable man who believes in and follows his oath. I cannot count the times over the years I'd been frustrated by a physician's unwillingness or inability to connect with their patients and show empathy and compassion.

I'll double down on the prayers sent and hope this will be resolved in short order.

My best to you and yours always.

J

Hi Ed

I'm not sure how your referral to Mayo will play out but a Active duty guy from out church was told he had a terminal heart disease and given a very short time locally but he was referred down to Mayo and was given a whole new lease on life from them. So I think that Mayo must be on there go-to list.

As always you are in my Prayers my Friend.

Jim

Got a phone call this morning from the individual who works referrals at the Base. She told me that on Monday they submitted all of my records/info to the Mayo Clinic, and late yesterday evening she received a reply from the Mayo Clinic saying that based on the records review, they would NOT see me. It seems that since the Mayo Clinic is not a "network provider" for TriCare (military insurance) they can accept or deny patients based on reviewing an individual's medical records/determining medical need.
All may not be lost however....she also told me that she had resubmitted my package to the Mayo this morning, along with some additional information that might make a difference. Now we wait again to see what the Mayo says.

Should the Mayo deny me again, she told me there is a place in Seattle, WA. which is a "network provider", and that is our fallback option. The lady told me that the issue with going to Seattle is that they very often will schedule tests/appointments as much as a week apart, which would very likely mean an extended stay for me, or a lot of back and forth travel... whereas the Mayo "stacks" appointments nearly every hour for a patient in order to get the most done, in the shortest amount of time/visits.

Although things are now at a "higher level" it's still more "hurry up and wait". Please keep praying that things work out to get me somewhere that can diagnose/help me.

Thanks to everyone for all the support and encouragement!

Initial response had to be a bit of a disappointment, but sounds good that things are starting to happen. Can you call the folks at Mayo and find out how you can get your input under consideration?

Hang in there, Craig

What a mess Ed. Sorry that you have to go through all this. We've all said it before but if there's anything else you need, we're not far away.

Still sending prayers your way.

Hang in there buddy. You'll get this thing figured out yet.

Ed, There are some pretty good hospitals in the Portland area also. Do you have tricare Prime or basic? I am not sure which ones in Portland are network providers but I know Salem Hospital is one. If you find one in the Portland area and need a place to stay or a pick up from the Airport let me know. I think I may have a friend who might be able to help you out in Seattle area as well. In fact he is a customer of yours too. Take Care

Chuck
