Identifying Naval Dagger

This is my first post here so forgive me if this is in the wrong forum. I could use some help identifying an old dagger that was given to me.

My father-in-law brought this dagger home after 4 years in Germany during WWII. It has a brass scabbard and ivory grip with an etched blade. There are many fouled anchors decorating it and on the pommel it has a D and an S on either side of the fouled anchor.
Could it be a German Naval officers dress dagger? Any help would be appreciated!

Looks interesting. Could be worth a couple bucks, or a couple thousand. You need to get some good, clear, closeup scans of any marks and or numbers on the blade. Should say M/??.

I don't see it being anything other than a Naval dress dagger-- the question is; is it German issue or not. Look for linguistic marks: English, Cyrillic, Asian, etc.
