Camp Knife WIP

HI everyone,

Here is what I am working on.

It's a fixed blade camp knife to use up the last of the 5/32 O1 Tool Steel from my first steel purchase. I will be buying thinner steel next time as this is pretty thick to work with, especially with a file.

I still need holes for loveless bolts and some to bring the weight of the handle down.

It is a modified design of a picture of a folder that I found online. First attempt at a sabre grind.

I took the photos on my tablet and i think they defaulted a little bit large. Sorry about that everyone.

Feedback is welcome.
Cheers,
Matt

Looks like a pretty good start. Is it hardened and tempered yet? Did/will you do it yourself?

Hey Hunter,
It has not been heat treated yet. I still need to drill the pin holes.

As I am doing all of this with hand files, i cannot grind bevels after heat treating.

I will be doing it myself. I have a small 2 brick setup with a torch that has worked for me so far, though I think this knife will max out the size. I will have to put a larger setup on my wishlist.

My next batch of steel will be stainless, and so I'll be sending the next stuff out for heat treating and so I should have time to fashion something more appropriate.

Thanks for looking

Well as promised, here are some updated photos of the Camp Knife. I made a sheath to go with it, and failed miserably. I must work on those leatherworking skills. It was a pretty sorry sight.

brown canvas micarta with stainless loveless bolts.

Hey man good job. I completely understand about leatherworking skills. If you haven't already try out Kydex. It's REALLY easy to work with and it looks good when you finish.

That's a good looking knife to be filed out of bar steel. I recommend Chuck Burrows' video on making leather sheaths. It's really not all that hard.

I love the finish on your micarta. Nice, handy looking blade you got there. Good job.

Matt, Looks good. 5/32" makes for a pretty stout knife for sure. I did a really basic sheath how-to with some pics on my blog. It's how I made my first two.

Getting ready for some camping myself, that is as soon as the snow melts. LOL
