Problems IDing this steel
I am having problems identifying a steel that I have the specs on. Nothing at work seems useful on sorting out the percentage of elements, plus I haven't had time to look at it a lot.
C 0.305 Mn .75 Si .027 Ni .49 Cr .95 Mo .985 V .092 If there is a link anyone knows to help Id stuff in the future I would be appreciative too. |

If it gives anyone a direction to head in, they are old band saw blades. Lennox brand Rx series blades. The manufactur hasn't responded to emai either. The idea is to use in damascus because they are free, 60 thousandths thick, and I can harden them. I was hopeful they were L6. Doesn't seem to be that way though.

I thought the same thing ,a typo . Would make sense if it were a .805 Carbon.

No it is .3% At least that is what the analysis says. Thanks for the link.
It isn't listed in the chart. Nothing that low in carbon is listed there. Last edited by Suicycle; 01-08-2007 at 07:27 PM. |

Nothing that low in carbon would be expected to harden - and certainly wouldn't be much use as a saw blade!
