Gen2 SMALL Flipper Prototype
Finally finished Prototyping out a smaller version of my Gen2 Flipper. I think I'm going to hang onto this one, carry if for a while, and if I like it, I'm leaning towards it being a standard model...and if so, I believe I'm going to go the waterjet route...having the parts/blades cut. Otherwise the retail price is just going to be too high.
Specs: OA length Open: 6 7/8" OA length Closed: 3 7/8" Blade length: 3" -Ball bearing pivot -Blade steel: S35VN (future blades will likely be CPM154 but as with most of my knives there will be versions with 52100 and Mosaic Damascus too) __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." Nice Ed. What steel did you go with?? I am guessing the pivot is like the one at the Boise show. That one was really smooth and tight.

Ed, Looks great, I really like the smaller size. The contrasting TI colors give it some eye apeal. I can definitly see mosiac on this model.
Remember when we were in SA, I could not put the full sized one down. Hope you marked this one prototype. Thanks for sharing Bing __________________ Bruce Bingenheimer MLazyB Custom Knives ABS Journeyman Smith |

Looks great, should be real nice to carry. What are the two holes between the screws for? Steve __________________ Stephen Vanderkolff Please come on over and check out my website. http://www.vanderkolffknives.com/ Thanks |

Steve,
Those two holes you mentioned are guide pin holes. Every folder I build has two 1/16" harden guid pins that go through the spacer and into the liners....some folks rely on countersinks in hopes of ensuring folder parts go back into the correct positions...but that doesn't work. With the guide pins, everything goes back into the EXACT same place every time the knife is taken apart and re-assembled during the building process. These holes don't show on my liner locks, because the handle material covers them, but it's a different story on Frame-locks....at first I tried to drill "blind holes" but the pins fit so tightly that they would not seat without a way for the air to escape...hence the reason I drill a smaller hole(s) all the way through the scales, then enlarge a portion of the hole (to the inside) with a 1/16" bit. Several years ago when I was trying to do it just with countersinking the interior screw holes, Tom Ferry recommended the guide pins, and once I tried it, I've never built another folder without the guide pins. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." My favorite to date
Hi Ed,
This should be a good seller. I really like the scaled down version, as it should make for a great carry for everyone, even businessmen and the like. Like Bing, can't wait to see this one in a mosaic. Dana |
