First Sword Scabbard

My first attempt at a sword scabbard. A bit of a challenge, but after three trys on the leather, it all worked out. All steel fittings. The tip is three pieces silver brazed together. Two halves and a bottom plug. The throat is also three pieces. The main body with a brazed seam in back, and 650? silver soldered top plate. The frog hook was made from a bar of 3/8" steel, sawed and filed to shape, then pinned and brazed to the throat. The sword was made by Jared Secrest under the guidance of Kyle Willyard, light in weight, and wonderfully balanced.

Very nice! Never done a full size scabbard before, just ones for minis. Made the same way though, only a lot less material. Did you use wood for the frame you wrapped the leather around?

I used the sword. I make the sheath section as if a side seam, then wet and position the seam in the center back. It is then pressed between formica faced boards with C clamps and the blade in place, and left to dry.

Thanks WBE. 2 more Q's:
What weight leather?
Do the metal rivets go completely through to backside?

The leather was 9oz shoulder. The edges were beveled for the seam. The pins were barbed and forced into an undersized hole with a tiny bit of epoxy for insurance. They do not go through.

Thanks for the additional explaination. Was worried my mind/eyes were really going bad, I couldn't get the blade past the pins, in my head. Not much room for barbed "blind" pins on a miniature.
I'm working on a 1/4 scale sword (16") right now and will try your technique. Timely for sure.
Thanks again.

I also epoxy the mounts when I install them permanently. It would take heat to remove them.
