Bird and trout/EDC

Here's another small bird and trout I just got finished. This one was a commissioned piece from a forum member. This one has a thin keen edge and a lot of distal taper that ends in a needle point.

Specs:

1084 steel
7 1/4" overall, 3" of actual cutting edge, .120" thick at the ricasso
African Blackwood scales
416 stainless pins
Heavily rounded spine
Filed thumb grip and fuller in spine

Thumbs up

I like it, John! Elegant comes to mind. I also like the size progression of pin sizes. Beautiful work, as always.

I really like this knife, i tried making one similar but that 1075/1080 from admiral steel just dosent want to take a hamon. Hopefully i will be able to get some good steel from Aldo after Christmas.

I don't know what type of hamon you are going for but the 1075/1080 from Admiral should definitely produce a quench line like I have here. If it is actually closer to 1075, you should be able to get even more activity. Either way, it should show some kind of distinct hardening line for sure.

That's a great looking knife, John. I really like the handle/blade proportion.

Feel free to ask questions here. You can start your own thread or ask in this one. We're all willing to help if we can.

You can send me an email if you have questions too. jdoyle @ bresnan.net (just remove the spaces between the words.)

Maybe we can walk you through and see if we can figure out why it's not turning out.

You making a sheath for this one, John? If so, I'd sure like to see them together.

Jeremy, I lucked out on this one and I don't have to make a sheath. The new owner has been making his own sheaths and said that he would like to give it a try on this. I'm always happy to oblige, especially that offer. I don't really enjoy the leather work. But I would have made one for it if he wanted.

So no..........this one does not get a sheath from me.
