Raised Clip Bowie
Blade : 1095 - 9"- 3/16"thick
Fittings : Damascus guard, spacer, and buttcap with two bronze spacers and a bronze pin. Handle : Maple Burl Stabilized by Woodlab - 5 3/16" Overall : 14 3/16" Guard and buttcap have a very subtle patterning to them. This is one i just finished up. Turned out pretty good, it's got a few small flaws, but it's just stuff I need to work on. Funny thing was I'd used this small bar of damascus I'd had for the fittings, but messed up the spacer, so cut it off another bar. Well I thinkt he original bar was some bandsaw/pallet strapping I'd done up. It doesn't etch very contrasted, it's fairly subtle, but the buttcap etched a bit better. I'm thinking they just needed to be heat treated as the buttcap got a bit more heat when I was brazing a screw onto it for a buttcap tang. Anyway, I'm fairly happy with it. Liking the raised clip. Thoughts, comments, or questions? More pictures can be seen here. http://www.erwinknives.com/galleryht...ipbowie01.html |
