Tai
Great looking knives. What did you use to dye the black one?
Thanks
Steve

Thanks guys.

I used a two part "ebonizing" process. First part, the bone is soaked in a tannic solution from pecan shells in water. The second part, "vinegaroon" (steel wool dissolved in vinegar) is applied. The tannin reacts with the iron in the vinegaroon and turns black. It works on most natural materials,? wood, leather, fibers and bones. Some woods that contain lots of tannin naturally don?t require the first step.

I got the mountain lion bone from Hide and Fur. It was a large one. The smaller one that I also ordered wasn't mature and had some separations on the ends.

Both are from the same bone, one from each end.
