Left Handed Folder

First left handed folder nearing completion - file work and final fitting still to be done. I'm posting this picture now as it's a Christmas present for one of my sons, and will be gone tomorrow.
- 3 1/2" D2 blade, 4 1/4" closed
- Australian beefwood scales, which almost have a holographic look in good light.
- Thunderforge twist damascus bolsters, heat colored to highlights of red, gold, blue and purple
- purple titanium frame
- peridot set into thumbstud
As my first left hander, it took a second set of titanium frames to get this one together correctly - marking everything with indelible ink to avoid mistakes from inattention, like what side the ball detent is mounted on, etc.

The first "opposite hand" knife is always the most difficult, Kelley.

You did a great job on this. Your son should enjoy it foir many years to come!

I just love the simplicity of the design, and the choice of materials! Great!

Kelly-

Great knife!

The beefwood scales and the colors you achieved on the bolster really work well together...

You've really got the fileworked screw thing down!...I'm still having trouble with consistency of the fileworked spaces on my screws...yours look super...very effective.

Overall excellent job!!!

Dennis

Yeah Baby!

Thanks, guys & have a wonderful holiday season.

Dennis - tips for filing the screws into rosettes:
- Opti-Visors & good light
- pin vise and a holder - I insert the pin vise in a round bench block with the right size hole in order to be able to rotate it while working.
- good micro files, triangular with sharp edges
- if using Torx screws, line the file edge up with the Torx ridges and lightly start to file each of the slots evenly, with a few passes on each of six cuts, moving around the screw after every few cuts to bring them all down evenly.
- after cutting out slots, slightly round the outside edges with a micro sized flat file
- lightly buff, with the buff running from the center of the screw hole to the outside edge - just enough to smooth out the rounding and provide a light polish
Have a few extra screws available for the occasional slip.
