Another Button Lock

Here's the second successful knife I completed over in Don's School of Knifemaking Button Lock class. A little more confident, I got a bit fancier with this one.

Blade: ATS-34, hollow ground
Liners: .100" titanium, engine-turned interior, anodized brass/purple/brown
Back spacer: ATS-34 with vine filework (extends to top of blade, too)
Bolsters: Jim Ferguson's Twisted Nickel Damascus ("Persian Delight" - This stuff is amazing. The pictures don't show the almost pearl-like iridesence as you turn it in the light. If you've ever seen a blade made from Jim's Damascus, you'll know what I mean.)
Scales: Mammoth ivory bark
Brass trim

OAL: 7.375"
Cutting edge is 3"
A hefty 6.5 ounces (almost half a pound! One of the heaviest folders I've ever built.)

This one snaps open with quite a jolt. Definitely a non-legal switchblade action. I might have to bend the kicker spring back a bit.

Another Button Lock

Frank:

That is one awesome knife. Your file work is outstanding as are your pictures. I like being able to see how you have the kicker spring placed. Was the button lock assembly difficult to place and align ? Also does the button lock, lock the knife in the open position as well as closed? Thanks for showing your work.

Frank, Fantastic work! your knives are some of my favorites to see, but this is fabulous!
Don't bend the spring, and just mail it to me, switchblades are legal here(to own).

I should take that class..... should probably take the slipjoint class too....

I hesitate to answer with too many details. Don holds some of his designs and methods pretty close to his chest (his classes aren't free for a reason) but the answer to all your questions is yes.

I'd sign up Don, but no mill or lathe

Too bad, Trenton.

Maybe some day.

In the meantime, you can build lots of knives with what you have.
