how to get the spine straight
I just got some 01 tool steel that is 1 1/2 inches by 1/8". I have done a rough cut out of it with an angle grinder. I have then used a Nicholson file along the perimeter of it to get everything straight but I cannot do this very well by hand. my method is clamping the knife in the vice and trying to keep the file straight while filing the spine and the rest of the knife. the spine and rest of the knife does not appear straight though but wavy. what is the best method to get my lines straight?
