Typhoon Balisong kit questions...
Hey I am a avid knife collector, and I wanna get started on butter fly knives. My brother has a BenchMade 42 that I consider to be of very high quality. I like how the lock latch is spring loaded. Is the Typhoon like this too? Is there any advantage to get the milled handles perfomance wise when flipping? How hard is it to put together one of these knives? I know the advantages of phophorus bronze washers and I dont know what size to order with this knife. And the last thing is how do you go about adding carbon fiber inlays like in the pictures for that knife, is it very hard because if it's that much trouble I won't bother. Any tips aprreciated

Welcome nvisiot,
Sure, the typhoon is a great bali for the money! It has a standard t-latch which is not spring loaded as on the bm42,but i'm sure you could rig something up if you wanted. I would'nt say either handle style really has an advantage, the standard set (no inserts) would probably be easiest to start with. With inserts you have to be carefull and get them to the exact size,if they're a tight squeeze it will cause the handles to bow on you,the knife wont flip properly. But if you take your time you should'nt have a problem. To assemble the entire knife will only take you a total of maybe ten minutes, getting the loc-tite to properly set how you want can be a tad tricky with these. To add inserts you'll need various grit's of sandpaper (depending on insert material),some epoxy and that'll do it for your basic inserts. I you search the forum you can see a few i've done in the past! |

I am interested in purchasing a balisong.
Is the typhoon a good first purchase? I have never built a knife before, but I have done some minor tinkering with other things. Is it fairly straightforward? I live in PA, and bali's are legal here, but is shipping a problem? |

Very straight forward. You'll have no trouble at all, and also no shipping problems.
Very nice knife for the money! __________________ Pete Johnston ~~> ExamonLyf@aol.com "There is no greater wisdom.., than [KINDNESS]" "Hunters seek what they [WANT].., Seekers hunt what they [NEED]" |

Depends a lot on how far you want to go with customizing a Typhoon.., but no.., to do the basic assembly Torx ####### and a small file will get you there..
