1x30 sander

Hello,
I'm thinking about maybe building a 1x30 or similiar size sander in the future for grinding finger grooves and other tight spaces. I've got a 5/8" wheel for my Wilton grinder, but when I try to grind along a tang for the final polish it leaves little ridges and flat spots. I end up having a hard time blending the flat portions of the tang into the finger grooves. I'd be open to trying a little bigger wheel, but then I love tools so I'm thinking of building the 1x30. So here's my question(s): where can I get contact wheels for building a grinder? What would be a good way to adjust the tension and tracking and on the belt? This probably isn't a project for the immediate future, but I would like to try it eventually. Thanks!
