Private Message limitations

I typed a medium length private message to a friend last night, and when I hit the "send" button, got a message saying that it was too long; to cut it down and try again. I beg your pardon?

I cut and pasted it into an email, but found the experience frustrating. What's with the limits? I noticed the same thing when I posted my modestly-sized tutorial on tang tapering the other day- it made me break it up into two posts. I don't like that.

I have to agree with you here Don, the PM length is increadibly short. I've had to cut and crop a couple of times now, I mean we're only talking of a few bytes between a short message and a short book - I dont understand the restriction!

If space is the consideration, wouldn't it make better sense to reduce the number of allowable "saved PM's" and increase the aloowed length of PM's?

I think vbulletin comes with pre-set defaults of 10,000 characters for posts and 1000 characters for PM's. Well, 1000 characters is only about 150 words or so - that aint much especially if you're quoting a reply.

Including spaces, there are 725 characters in this post - not far short of the PM limit, with no quotes or lengthy url's.

Well, it seems to me that the pm feature would be for short and sweet messages since there are so many other means of carrying on lengthy conversations and just chatting in general. Just my take on it.

I've set it to 2000. Beyond that, I'd recommend e-mail.

PM Quota reached?

I am getting emails that my CKDF Private Message Inbox is full, and that my PM quota has been reached. I followed the instructions, to correct this, but don't have any messages in my inbox. I have only one in my sent box, and NO folders whatsoever. I'm not sure what I can delete to make more room....

Email me, until I figure out what to do.

Sorry,

Sam
