Photo contest

Given the current level of interest/participation/voting in our weekly contest, should we consider making it a MONTHLY contest? That way I think we might have more (and better) entries, since folks wouldn't have to rush to get "something" in - and, with only 1/4 the frequency, perhaps more interest on the part of viewers and voters.

The winner could easily be featured in the newsletter that way, too.

Not a bad idea, Don. Here's a step further..

I mentioned this a while ago, and it bears repeating. Maybe a biweekly contest for 'non-winners' only? Only to generate participation by some who, otherwise, might be intimidated.

Yup, and once you win, you're now with all the rest of the gang in the Monthly contest. Just a thought.

Or simply change it to biweekly instead of weekly. I would start here first rather than close off weekly for monthly. That's my call.

Exclamation

Guys-
I think there's something really important to keep in mind. Many, many knifemakers just don't understand as yet, the importance of being able to take a half-way decent photo of their knives.

Once you get away from the larger "reps" it doesn't take long for the mediocre photography to rear its ugly head. I just had a conversation with a very accomplished knifemaker of longstanding, who didn't have a clue...

I think we should take it upon ourselves to promote and educate this as much as possible for the betterment of the entire knifemaking community. Maybe it's not enough to quietly have an ongoing photo contest. Maybe the reason why participation is what it is, can be blamed on ignorance on many levels...photography's importance and what CKD has to offer in the way of education and encouragement that can ultimately improve their bottom line.

Instead of "shrinking" the contest, we should be promoting the heck out of it and it's importance!

Dennis

I think Don and Coop are on the right track. Once a week is too cramped. I find it hard to get in there and view and vote in a once a week situ.

How many post photos just to help fill out the booth?

Compromise, give 2 weeks a shot and see what happens.

If you go to once a month, I can guarantee that I can do a better job of covering and promoting it in the CKD Newsletter.
