Community Forum ??

Folks,

I'm going to throw this one out there for better or worse: In ALL the 'other' sites there is a large draw and subscription to a 'Community Forum'. One that covers all kinds of our other interests and happenings.

Now I KNOW that the 'Electric Fencepost' may have been designed for that but, frankly, it isn't meeting those expectations. It's a fun place, to be sure, but it's regarded mostly as a repository for humor rather than a true discussion board.

Just like a store that is doing poorly, I'd like to give it a makeover and change the name and format to attract new blood. The Fencepost is dormant.

We are going to get larger and larger, and as such I'd love to keep members interests vibrant. An 'other interests' forum would be a good thing. Keep an open mind and give me your skinny on this. New name, what would YOU like included, etc.

Coop

I think a "community" forum would be nice. A place to discuss many topics.

'CKD Community'

Short description:
"The CKD is all about excellence and sharing info. Our 'other' lives are also filled with stories, events, and opinions. This forum is an opportunity to discuss outside interests, personal experience, things that make us happy and things that don't!

Sticky post:
The CKD members have always upheld to the highest standard of integrity in our forums. This place is an extension of this great attitude, but we also hope you'll kick off your shoes, relax, and have a little fun!

We want to know of happenings and events that you're interested in. Sports? Let's talk. Bad day at the shop? Why? You've got a new nephew? Tell us! Did you see a story you want to comment on? It's all good...!

But.... Having said that we discourage any posts with Sexual, Religious, or Political content. There are plenty of forums and newsgroups dedicated to these hot topics, and this is NOT one of them. Humor is always welcome and encouraged, as is straight talk.

Let's make this a place where we can really get an insight into the lives and personalities of our unique membership! What's up in your own life? Share some views!

"We came for the knives, but stayed for the people!"

How rude of me!

...to make this proposition and NOT acknowledge Pat Osborne (Knife Wife) for all the time, energy and good vibes that she has instilled in the 'Electric Fencepost'. It's always been a good place; I just would like even 'more'.

Pat, there is no one here that doesn't respect all that you do, and I'm one of them. If Alex chooses to add this forum to our mix, I'd love an opportunity to moderate it, but I would WANT some help. My first pick would be YOU! Please give me your input?

Respectfully,

Coop

Ok, this one isn't going to die easily....

Looks like I've got my own thread going here. Not my idea of good CKD dialog!

Ok, I'm still wanting this type of forum, but I *might* just be alone on this. Silence speaks volumes. Then there is this whole aspect of the Electric Fencepost leaving us, and it's quite obvious that no one wants to touch this. But me.

So now I'm making a DIRECT plea to the members, but ESPECIALLY the mods to give me a little feedback. It's a valid proposal, and your input counts. What's your take?

Coop

Hey Coop,

I thought that it was a done deal and was just waiting for the forum to be added. It's a great idea to be able to get to know other makers and collectors. I'm not a very chatty person but will chime in when I can.

Guys,

Someone make sure you tell me what you need when you finally get it decided. Unless you tell me directly, there's a chance I'll miss it.

Alex

Jerry-
You're right but...
Read Coop's initial post in this thread...pretty much covers it.

Guys,

We'll change the fencepost to a new name with a new purpose, but keep the threads in there as archives.

Come up with a name, description and pick your moderators and we'll come up with a solution.

I nominate the moderation team of:
- Jim Cooper
- Dennis Greenbaum
- Bob Sigmon

All in favor, say aye!

Alex

Alex,

Jim, in a previous post, had a good name and description. That gets my vote.

I would be happy to moderate with Dennis and Jim. Thanks for the vote of confidence. It does help that with my job I sit at a computer most of the day, so I'm always around.

Let me know,

Bob Sigmon
