New Feature - See who read your thread

I've added a new feature to show who read your thread. If you are the author of the thread, you will be able to see a list of all who have read your topic. This list will be on the bottom of the last post in the thread.

Mods and Supermods have this feature by default, but I've wanted to hack it into the member/author code for a while now.

Let me know if you have any issues, questions or problems with finding the reader list, or generally using the feature.

Have fun!!!

PS - I know you read this message!!!!

Alex, I think this is a great idea. It would be nice to know who is interested enough in my postings to read them. I wonder though, if it would make life hard on the moderators whenever someone posts something he knows is in a particular moderators wheelhouse, and he sees the moderator has read the post, but has not responded. All the same...I think it will be interesting.

Alex

I have a few questions about this feature.

I know I am still new to this site, but something does not add up.

I was looking at a few of the threads that I started and the number of views and the number of people that is stated to have read the thread simply does not add up.

It doesnt really matter except, I am trying to see how everything works.

Please Help, if you can.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

The "number of views" counts the number of members and guests that have viewed/read the thread. The "members who have read" feature only counts the number of logged-in members who have read the thread. It doesn't count guests.

On any given day, we'll have 10x the number of guests (not registered or logged-in) as opposed to members who are logged-in when they visit.

If you still think there is something wrong going on, post the link to the thread that you're reviewing and I'll take a deeper look at it.

Alex

I think the count started after the hack was installed, i.e., it did not count all the reads prior to that point.

That's correct!

The "Members who read..." display started after the feature was enabled. Only members who have visited the thread after that point were added to the visible list.

I read a lot of posts as a "guest." Why bother logging in unless you are posting a reply?
