What does everyone think about a forum for home smelting crucible steels? There are a good number of members that are doing it and alot info. and details to being successul at it. As of right now there is no forum for discussion/fat chewing it.

I second this. I am interested in doing this and would like to see an area to exchange information.

Alex, I would be willing to help admin this if you need someone.

Aside from smelting, this forum would be a good place to discus casting also. That is an art and science all in it's self. I have seen some real nice bolsters, guards and pommels that have been cast from pewter and bronze. There are some members that are very experienced at it and probably would not mind posting a tutorial or two.

Alex, is this going to happen? Just made my first button of steel in a graphite crucible tonight and was wondering if we were going to get a home to discuss this.

Attached is an image of the button. I forged it a little, and no cracks. Need to grind it to see if it sparks good, but here it is.

Thanks,
--Carl

Hi Guys ...

It looks like you have plenty of support/interest for this topic. We'll be happy to set it up and support it for you.

Let's have some opinions on who should moderate this new board, and why ...

As soon as that is settled, we'll launch it ... sound good?

Alex
