Seriously good and important idea for a forum. As someone who will soon be needing to learn at least the basics about this potentially complex subject, you definitely have got my vote!

What ever happened to the idea of the Heat Treat forum? There is not much information out there for this subject! Especially for stainless steels. I am searching everywhere for books and websites, but cannot find much. I vote for one if it is still being considered. Thanks!

I'd be happy to help with the forum and a little metallurgy. I've been selecting, specifying and heat treating tool steels most of my adult life.

Don you may have to run with this one. I don't think anyone really wants to tackle this one, because it could easily turn into a real can of worms. It would be a great forum, I hope we can see it soon. I don't have the technical expertise to do it.

Looks to me as if the idea of having this forum has died.

What does the forum administrator have to say?

The Adminsitrator says ...

It's a done deal! We decided it was plenty supported to start, but I didn't want to do it until the new boards are online because it makes moving the data over a little harder. Please forgive the delay on the completion. The new site is 100x more complex than this one and is very technical in it's application set. In fact, we're going where no site has gone before!

Alex

Heat treat forum

I think a heat treat forum is an excellent idea! Because of working so many hours the last year, I have yet to make a single blade yet. But, it has allowed me to purchase many items for the shop such as an Evenheat knife oven, Grizzly grinder, drill presses, bandsaws, etc. I have been reading this forum for over a year, daily, so as to learn as much as possible. It would certainly be great for a beginner like myself, to be able to have access to this information. I would like to thank all who participate in these forums and share their knowledge so willingly!! Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Bill

Beam us up Alex!
Would say W*** 5 speed, but that "W" word is a heattreater's nematode (?) What?
I really like the idea, it may get a little testy but we're all here to learn and/or share.
Guess I better get some more eyedrops, this means more, later nights!
