Detent question
i'm probably not looking where i should but, since the detent ball doesn't rotate, how come we can't use a set screw to replace the detent???
I mean, it's not rotating anyways, so whats the difference? Thanks, |

I'm sure it could be done.......but the two factor that come to my mind are hardness and friction. You're not going to find a set screw that is as hard as a tiny bearing ball, and the way the end of a set screw is shaped, its going to be much more friction against the blade then a ball.
I suspect there would also be issues with the way it would seat in a detent hole. Heck, give it a try and see what happens! __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |

I dont remember who it was that rounded off a bit more some button heads and used them as detents. And you could round set screws a bit, even flatten it for a snappier action.
Idk, its a bit disturbing to know that the thing keeping your blade from cutting your leg is a ball that could potentially come out... |
