Bird & Trout
Ok......So I like making these. Cant seem to make them fast enough. This one goes to a new home tomorrow. He seen it when it was in its UGLY state. Just a big block of wood epoxied to the blade. Blade was even taped up. I hope he like it.
Im really liking this acid etched look on the blades. Have a lot of Photoshop and Photography skills to hone before Im happy. That harder than making the knife itself. Thanks for looking - Shane |

Another nice knife Shane. The way you have radiused the handle, has sure brought the character out of the wood. It looks like it would really feel nice in the hand.

Thanks Guys. Your kind words are much appreciated.
Mike & Frank, As far as the Etch goes, I just used Ferric Chloride (from Radio Shack). That blade was put in a mix of 4:1 Distilled water and Ferric Chloride. Left in for about 5 min then brought out and hand sanded with 1200 grit. I did that probably 3 times. The third time I think I left it in a little longer. I did another blade shortly after that ill post later that I made the mix more like 35% Ferric Chloride 65% Distilled water and etched for about 20 min. Sanded and put in for another 5 min then sanded. I really like the way it turned out. Frank: These two blade were taken to a 400 grit finish then Bead Blasted. They were meant to be Bead Blast finished till I changed my mind and went with the Etch. This etching is a lot of fun and definatelly needs lots of experimenting to get what you like. Let me know if you have any more questions. Shane |

Great looking knife Shane. Sounds like we're doing the same things, trying to get better with our photo skills and having fun with O1 etching, Dave

Hi Frank, yes the etch works real well on 1095. That's pretty much what I use steelwise, and I found the Fe to work good for me. Just do it like Shane says...
Shane, Good lookin knife buddy. Do you use ready made pins or do you make your own? Bud |
