Boblade, I had an experience today that was really cool and I think it's because I've been hanging out here too much with you. I went to a knife show for the first time in about two years and of course all of the dealers were asking me if I was still collecting thus and so which I'm not. In fact I'm about to unload a bunch of stuff I've had for years because of the Randall disease. I'm casually walking around looking for Randalls and this one suddenly jumped out of the case and grabbed me by the throat. It was an old number two eight in a heiser sheath which had the pocket cut off as we've seen many times before. I asked how much it was and then pretended to be cool and unaffected by the answer and asked to take a look at it. Big thick pinned stag handle, finger grooves, and carbon steel with a very narrow necked down area in front of the double hilt. I can't remember the name of that part of a knife right now. The thing that really struck me was how wide the blade was. I would guess it was pretty much right between the width of a standard #2-8 from the seventies and the appealing dealer special of Tom Clinton. I'm really afraid that I'm coming down with a different strain of Randallitis! I didn't get it but.................

This is the only #2 I have. Bought from a nice fellow out in Solvang, CA. He has a store called Nordic Knives.

Hi Mr. Thumb!

If I was to wish for a #2, yours would be the one I'd want. Thanks for sharing it with us again!

Cheers!

Very nice, Mr. Thumb! I scrounged around and came up with another pig sticker to post under the wire:

Talking

Thanks guys,

I got lucky on that Randall. I have two Randalls on order with Nordic Knives so when I had a chance to visit the shop I did so and found that #2 for sale. Being the great business man I am I said "I'll take it" before I even ask how much.

Was never much of a #2 fan before. Now I definately am. Now I am looking for a #2-7 with a commando leather grip.
I am also toying with the idea of asking Sullivan's to make a brown leather sheath with conchos for my #14 stag. Conchos are big here in Tejas.

BTW, the moniker is a runtogeather of "tom the bomb". A nickname given to me by my girlfriend (now mate of 36 years) when we were in highschool.

Precursor of #2

Hi all!

As promised, here are a couple of photos the fore-runner to the Randall Model #2, upon which Bo based his design. I will be posting more detailed pictures and information about this particular Fairbairn-Sykes WWII dagger (3rd pattern) on the Randall Off-topic forum later this week.

Cheers!

These are my two Model 2s. THe top one is a 2-4 with fossil walrus ivory handle, and black and brass spacers. I thought the big handle with little blade would be awkward but it feels very nice and balanced in hand. I bought it on Ebay and it came to me with a dark brown Sullivan/RMK crocodile sheath. The bottom one is a pure stock 1980s 2-7 I bought from Perry.

Thanks for bringing this back to the top. I have managed to pick up two more #2's since my last post.

Glad I did, I kind of found it by mistake. I'm a little new to the forum, I've been watching for a while but usually too busy to jump on, bunch of great guys on here, I've actually done business with some before on ebay. I thinks it's a great way to share your collections with the other addicts, er.. people.

Thanks fellows for reviving this thread with your cool looking "Stilettos".

I'll be posting pics of my recently received first one, er two, well you know what I mean... soon.

Rob, I too am wondering where your brass hilt is...

Tom, Ron and anyone else, are you aware of the current photo contest here on the Knife Network:
http://www.knifenetwork.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=38790

Perhaps you might want to enter, since the theme for this one is "...on the relationship of firearms and knives..."

Cheers!

David

Moosehead,
Yes, they are black. I didn't care for them at first. Bought the 2 to appease my yellow micarta appetite but they have grown on me. I couldn't live without it now!
