Well, guess what?

Hi folks!

I just tried to pay my annual subscription to Fototime, the hosting site which I used to host almost all my photos for this forum. I discovered this:

Quote:
FotoTime
On March 10, due to circumstances beyond our control, FotoTime suffered a catastrophic outage. This outage effected both the infrastructure and data. Regretably, due to this outage, FotoTime has ceased operations.

We would like to thank all of our customers for supporting us all of these years.

This difficult decision to cease operations was the only option available to us.
So unfortunately you folks won't be be able to view my photographic contributions to this forum.
They're all gone with nary a trace!

I think this is a reflection of just how unreliable these kind of internet "things" are...

Just thought y'all should know.

Cheers!

David

At times I despise the Internet with its 'hidden rules'. If it had been a real store they would have to have copies of your work, but not so with "Net" sites.

Fortunately I still have all of my original images and they're backed up on multiple computers and external hard drives.

It's really this forum that loses the ability to view them. It would not be possible to try to bring them back in some other format. So philosophically I just have to accept it.

As for all the work I invested in bringing all those Randalls to this forum to be shared, it's okay. I enjoyed doing it!

Cheers!

David

Ouch!

May consider a web hosting service even if you don't want to have an accessible web page. No worries about some photo hosting service going belly up on you unless you decide to terminate services.

I lost the majority of my photos, David. No backup. Expensive lesson.

This loss will degrade lots of collaborative posts. Shame. Several years ago i laboriously switched my pictures supporting chat times to IMGUR after the evil empire tried to hold them for ransom. The service is based in Germany (I think) and so far so good. I do keep copies in personal files.
