finishing canvas micarta

Hay all just looking for some tips on finishing canvas micarta, I have taken it to 600 and it looks fine but not sure how to polish it up, any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks Carl

Carl just lightly polish it at that grit it should smooth out without much white compound on the buffer. If doing by hand then just buff with some cotton cloth and something like turtle wax which I've found does a nice job on plastics like the phenolic in micarta.

The higher the grit the more shine you'll get. But the more shine you have the less grip you get. On my micarta I don't usually go above 600. Once a knife is covered in blood & guts it gets hard to get a good grip

Thanks guys, the last thing I want is a slippery handle.

I just finished a knife with a micarta handle and took it to 800 grit. It still had some grippy texture. Sanding micarta was tough on my sanding belts.

It is always best with some materials to hand sand the final finish and micarta is one of them. I hardly ever use it as I despise the smell of it. If slippery is a concern I suggest learning to checker the handle. They have tools that make it fairly easy, Jantz sells some I think.
