? regarding DDR3BL

I just received my kit and I have a question regarding the back spine. It does not seem to fit the contour of the back near the plastic safety. I wonder if I may have the wrong one or do I have to trim some of it off to make room for the safety or can it be made to take the place of the safety?

The kit does seem to machined very well and does fit extremely well otherwise. I know that I will have to do some shaping of this to get it to fit. The back spine just doesn't seem to match as closely.

Thanks for answering my question.

I didn't use the plastic safety cuz i'm just not a fan of this material. My suggestion would be to buy the stainless steel backspine which eliminates the cheap plastic piece and makes for a better looking knife. Then you can also try your hand at doing some of the fancy file work on the backspine. Just a thought, hope this helps!

doc i know what youre talking about. i thought that same thing you did when i got my first ddr3bl. i didnt bother using the safety either. however i did not reshape the backspine, and did some filework. in other words that little bit of metal stuck out as it got closer to the bolsters, it actually acted as a sort of thumb rest when i was doing actual cutting with the knife....p.s. the backspine is an empty canvas take full advantage of its abilities....have a good one.

You'll have to grind the backspine down to make it the same thickness as the original little round spacers. Then, you'll have to file or grind a place in it where the blade stop pin is so that it will be more flush with the liners. It will fit pretty nicely with a little work.
Throw the plactic lock out.
All you git is a parts kit, the finished knife is yours.
