Can anyone identify this ?
Can anyone identify the brown tubular object in the bottom center of the picture? It's pretty rare, not seen very often
It's an empty spool of Barbour's Pure Flax Sinew, 781 yards of 7 cord left twist thread !! On to the next one Mike __________________ Trying to become the kind of man my dog thinks I am http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft...E4E363B}&tio=0 |

You need to write the date on it and sit it on your display shelf. - Jim

Mike; You need to cut the index finger and thumb out of that glove........and the other one too. Makes handling the needles and pulling the thread much easier and the last three fingers still protect against thread cuts.

No no, tio viejo It's a cabretta leather golf glove (for a left handed golfer), very thin and very adept at needle handling. In fact it provids much better friction for pulling the needle through on the second pass. It's one of the things I'd recommend to new handstitchers. I order them from Master Glove golf, 2 for $10 and they last forever.

Mike, ol'buddy, I think your pulling our legs. That looks like a toilet paper roll That's what happens when you do so many sheaths for those big blades.I talked to the "Godfather" Sandy the other day and this thread makes me wonder just how many feet of thread he has used in his illustrious career. We should have a pool Anyways, I know your getting some serious sewing time with all these blizzards.Stay warm my friend.Dave

That does look like the cardboard roll from a Barbours one pound spool. I do not think that I would measure the thread I have used over the years by the yard. I think that miles would be more accurate. I really do not know how many one pound spools I have used in the past 60 years but it would put a kite in danger of being hit by high flying commercial air liners. In recent years I have passed on hand sewing unless there is no other way to do it. When hand stitching I used 7 cord linen almost exclusively but now use 277 nylon with a Tippmann stitcher. I like the heavier threads. ---Sandy---

Another couple of yards of thread
Yes Dave, thes big boys do have an appetite for thread I finished the Busse Battle Mistress sheath (left) this evening, completing the 3 sheath order for Guido in Rome.
Even at almost $50 a spool Barbour's is a pretty good investment for us hand-stitchers; this spool put together quite a few sheaths ! VH, you'll be suprised; sudenly one day you'll see cardboard peeping out from under the last rows of thread , a sure confirmation of leather addiction Mike __________________ Trying to become the kind of man my dog thinks I am http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft...E4E363B}&tio=0 |

Sandy, I didn't actually measure it, it's marked on the bottom of the box , also 7 cord.
Maybe my kite line would stretch to the final approach of that airliner ?? Mike __________________ Trying to become the kind of man my dog thinks I am http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft...E4E363B}&tio=0 |

Yeah, Mike, but it would all depend on how close it was to touch down! At least it would stretch a good way down the runway!! ---Sandy---

jdm61---Hi, St. Pete! It is my every intention to be there. I hope you can make it as you will never meet a finer group of people. Do you know Dan Mink (formerly of St. Pete)? He is a member and I hope that he can make it, too. ---Sandy---

that 7 strand will last me forever as I hate using it , I have the hardest time stitching with it ,especialy when backstitching . I been using the 5 strand much more.
