scout knives

For the last 3 years i have made each bear scout there own knife when they earn there whittling chip card (allowing them to carry a knife to scouting events).

These are the batch for the 2014 bears, my boys happen to be among the 7 receiving a knife.

I used Aldo's 1084 1/8" thick the blade is just over 2" long. The handles were scaled down to fit the hands of a nine year old. i made all of the pins, and the micarta. The wood I used is Lignum vitae, Cocobolo, spalted hard maple, and dyed wormy box elder burl.

That's a pretty serious gift for a Young Fella. Nice work!
I remember when they called it a "Tote n Chip" badge, went on or just above the pocket flap. Still got mine somewhere,

Yeah, they were thrilled to get them. It was a good compliment but a bad result. They were so busy looking at there knives, not one of them paid any attention to the remainder of the crossing over ceremony.

That is an awsome gift! I wish I would have thought about that when my oldest was a Bear, those are great looking knives for a young scout!

In cub scouts it is a whittlin' chip, when you get to boy scouts you earn your totin' chip which allows you to carry and use a knife, saw, and ax.
