? On Stainless Steel

I was given some non-magnetic stainless steel. What can I do with it? Will it make a some what good blade, or just trade it in at the scrap yard? If the blade will work, than how about the HT? Or dose it need it? Thanks.

If it's non-magnetic, it won't have enough carbon to make a blade. Should be good for guards or bolsters, though.

My understanding is that "300" stainless steels are austenitic and are non-magnetic. "400" steels are martensitic and are magnetic.

Before you toss the steel away, consider that it might be useful for making stainless guards.
