416 stainless bolsters

Mystery scales are something I bought years ago, so I don't know what kind of stabilized wood this is.???

Hello, Dave. Are you making a two blade trapper?

After the quench and flash temper, cryo, then 2 hrs. twice at 1150. Got me 48Rc for these springs.

Helo me a little with the full process. Just how do you "flash-temper" and what if no cryo?

[Don Robinson]

A flash temper is used to relieve the stresses built up by the quench. If you had a tempering furnace, you could temper as soon as the steel gets to room temp. Most people don't, so we use the flash temper at around 400 in the wife's kitchen oven at least two hours while we wait for the heat treat furnace to cool down to tempering temp.

Or, if we add cryo, it's done right after the flash temper.

Use dry ice broken into two large pieces in a styrofoam ice box. Place the part between the two pieces of dry ice overnight, then temper as soon as the part gets back to room temp.

Never leave an untempered part lying around. It may crack.

I don't heat treat without cryo, so my guess would be to temper your springs at 1900.

Maybe somebody else who uses CPM 154 without cryo can help you out.
