some progress
Hey gang!
It's taken way too long but I have finally made some progress on some damascus knives (actually have a couple more in the wing). The dagger took the longest to complete. I tried my hand at some sculpting on the bottom knife (this is some of that koa that Jim Clow stabilized. His process really did a fantastic job on bringing out that beautiful grain. The picture is not that great (need to get my shadow box set up!) but, at least, you'll get the drift. Take care guys, Dana |

I like em all, but my eye is drawn to the really cool carving/texture job on the bottom hunter......great implementation of that technique!

Thanks Ed! That compliment means a lot since I tried to mimic your carving technique . I found it rather tough to keep both sides of the knive's sculpting the same.
Thanks buddy, Dana |

Thanks for showing them Dana. Looks like that stag handle finished out just right. Nice clean damascus.

Hey Craig!
Thanks for the thumbs up. I also like that stag handled Bowie a lot, and that koa that Jim stabilized is beautiful when you see it in person. My pics leave a lot to be desired . Dana |

Dana, All of those are fantastic. The carving on the Koa came out very cool. Every time I try to do something like that. It just turns into a train wreak. And there is a dagger too

Well done Dana. I think I need to come spend some time with you as it seems that every knife you build is the next knife I want to build.
Can't wait to see you and Sandy this June. Take care Jim |

Hi Bing! Thank you for the compliments on the carving. I have a pile of attempts in a box in the corner . That dagger, though far from perfect, just seemed to fall into place. I'd like to get proficient with them. Our buddy from the north, Roger Hatt, has mastered daggers and says they're a piece of cake!
Hi Jim! Thank you also for the kind words. It seems like most of my knives start with a plan but never end up the way I intend them too. Sandy and I are psyched about the hammer-in too. We'll have a blast! Take care guys, Dana Here's a better pic of the koa knife |
