"Camping Assassins on the Hunt! ...a KITH if you please"

Welcome one and all!

Here it is my friends and fellow grit eaters! The rules are simple.

All work must be your own. Farming out for heat treating is cool as is sheath work if you choose, but the knife should be an original creation conceived and created solely for the purpose of interpreting one of these two words:

'Hunting Camp'

or

'Assassin'

If you want to work in both themes, power to you.

Knives made for KITHs should be function blades which conform to the laws of the land where the recipient lives. If you want to make a dagger, but you may be sending it to a place where they are illegal, don't sharpen both edges.

Size is up in the air. Anything goes!

Choice of steel, and handle material is also open season.

Sheaths are encouraged as knives are tough to tote with out them.

The deadline for completion will be Sunday, October 19th 2008. That's 82 days starting tomorrow. Any earlier, and we loose participation and increase drop-out probabilities. Any later gets into the time when we'll all be rushing to finish up Christmas gifts. So, plan ahead and set aside some days to work on this one.

Sign up here with a post stating your intentions. You need not declare a word now, but be prepared to explain how your finished knife interprets the word you chose (none of that 'seven degrees of Kevin Bacon' stuff either).

The draw will be the normal format one week before the deadline. Confirmations will be requested two weeks before the deadline. If you confirm and then cancel after the draw, you look uncool, so don't do that. It breaks the heart of us sensitive knifemakers who think you dropped because you drew one of our meager knives.

That's it and that's all!

'Cool' is the guiding principal gents..., make 'em cool.

Count me in. No clue what I'm going do, but I'll sure try to make it special. At least with either of these, I don't have to mess with a leather sheath.

Hi guys,
I'm Brad. At one time or another, I've burnt my thumbs , had my socks full of grinding dust , and lit my shoe on fire from grinding sparks . I guess I'm qualified enough to call myself a knife maker, so, I'M IN!

Whats the difference between a Hunting knife and a Camp knife ? Camp knife is bigger ? More of a multi-task type ?

Yea, that's how I figure it.

I might try a cool saw tooth pattern I created a few years ago on a spine (if I go the camp route). It cuts like hell! ...I oughta patten it!

That would be my general idea of a knife used in hunting camp for chopping wood, moose, dinner, etc. whatever needs done at the camp. But, this is going to be your interpretation, and your interpretation may be much different than mine or Andrews. Make what you think would be handy in a hunting camp.
