Friend looking for a hatchet/tomahawk

Hello all,

A friend from another forum is looking for getting a custom hawk (Colonial style, not pipe) for a soon to graduate Ranger School.

He is also looking to keep it in the $200 range and is also willing to work some barter.

Let me know if you are interested,
Jim

Give us a sketch or an example to judge by, I can hook you up with one, but I need to have a better idea what you're after here.

Take a look at www.wolfcreekforge.com if you ned some examples/ideas.

Thanks,

He used the one from The Patriot as an example so I think what you have on your site is close to what he is looking for. I have invited him over to the forum to join the discussion.

Jim

Not my site, just someone that I found and have seen work by. Got a hell of a lot of respect for the guy he can do some awesome things on a forge. Also if you'd rather most of his work is in the price range you're looking at and he's got a much faster turn around time than I do.

Jim,

Why don't you check with Alan Longmire. He's been making them for many years and has some of the best that I've seen. He isn't active here like he used to be, but he's pretty active over on Don Fogg's Bladesmith Forum Boards.

Intro and follow up to find a hawk

Hello to all,
Drac made the recommendation that this forum would be the best place to start in the hunt for a colonial style hammer poll hawk. So far thanks for the response. I am looking for a working tool in order to celebrate the completion of Ranger school this November.

I have been looking at the link similar to what was suggested:
http://www.wolfcreekforge.com/

tried to dig up some information on Mr. Alan Longmire but was not able to find too much.

Does anyone have any experience with working with or checking out the quality of wolf creek forge blades?

Thank you for all of the help and if there are any more suggestions I would surely appreciate it.

Mr. Longmire isn't that far from me, you should be able to reach him at 423-773-1161

Like I said previously regarding wolf creek blades, they're very good and worth the price I had a chance to handle a couple of them in the past and they never disappoint.

Additionally I had a chance to stop in Winkler knives yesterday, they do hawks as well. They mainly provide knives to Military and have VERY good stuff, Daniel the owner was kind enough to give me a tour of the facilities and I'm impressed.

So I can vouch for the production and quality there too.

Oh, their website is: http://www.winklerknives.com/

Thanks everyone. Checking out a few of the folks and just working out the details. I will post pics when completed. Just not sure of the timeline though. I appreciate the help.

Thanks for the props, Nathan!

Communication ensued and consideration of the great many excellent choices provided to NCMC is underway.

Just for fun, here's one of my "Patriot" inspired hawks:
