Raffle of Veterans' Collaboration knife... Sep 21st

Well, at long last...

This project proved to be a larger and more difficult undertaking than anyone involved anticipated. The idea was to pass around a few knives between makers with each person completing a different part of the build. Afterward, the knives would be sold by then undetermined methods, and the proceeds would be donated to veterans' organizations on behalf of the thankful members of the custom knifemaking community.

Alas, we are finished. The challenge of late has been to determine the best means of selling the knives and choosing a recipient for whatever funds are collected.

The knife:
This knife is the concept of Carl Price of Idaho. From a billet of premium damascus, graciously donated by Debert Ealy, he forged and shaped a traditional military style fighter.

Jim Drouillard was next to get his hands on it down in Texas. He completed the heat treating and finish work on the blade, opting for a classy, lightly etched look.

The handle and fixtures were conceived and completed by Andy Sharpe back in North Carolina. The dark wood is Teak, from a refit of the USS Constitution, courtesy of the United States Navy and Jim Drouillard (Navy Reservist). This really ties the knife to a powerful military history. The copper and stag were provided by Mr. Sharpe.

The knife then came to me here in the heartland of Kansas. I designed and constructed the sheath--carving a traditional victory 'V' as the only embellishment. This symbol and every part of the knife is meant to honor and thank all who have served this country in peacetime and war.

The proceeds from this knife raffle will be sent to the National D-Day and WWII Museum in New Orleans.

The raffle will be held on Sunday at the Oklahoma Custom Knife Show in Oklahoma City this weekend (Sep 20th and 21st). Chances will be available there as well as on this forum. No one involved in the project will purchase a chance for obvious reasons, but all others are welcome and encouraged to try their luck.

Remember..., it's for a great cause! Let's honor the greatest generation and their deeds.

Chances will be available here until 7AM Friday Sep. 19th. I will add those names to the draw at the show in OKC.

You can send payment however you choose, but they must be received by Friday. Late arrivals will be returned unopened.

Given the worthiness of the cause, chances will be sold at $10 each.

Thank you.

One person bought 2 chances. I hope the show goes better.

Thanks for considering it.

This knife was raffled at the end of the Oklahome Custom Knife Show.

Our own Ryan Minchew's wife was kind enough to draw the name from the box revealing the winner...

...Mike Miller, President of the Oklahoma Knife Group.

The effort raised $100 for the WWII museum.

Guys I am humbled to receive this fine knife. I put it in my collection next to an honored piece made by George Englebretson who every one down here could count as their mentor. Everyone did an outstanding job on it . The teak piece catches your eye with the beautiful web pattern. Andy did a very nice presentation with the description of the piece and everyone getting credit for their part in it. Again THANK YOU Mike Miller
