Question about Damascus
Hi, I have not been able to find much out regarding my question about Damascus knives. Are they supposed to have or can they have r##ges (for lack of a better word) that can be felt with the fingernail or is this some sort of etching process that is not cons##ered true Damascus?

Yes. To bring the pattern out knifemakers and manufacturers will use an ac## to bring the pattern out. Depending how strong the solution relative to exposure will determine how deep of an etch will be on the Damascus. So yes, there may be felt r##ges in the Damascus.
Some processes of discoloring the metal may visually appear as a "damascus" but it may not. __________________ Mike ![]() ![]() |
