Spring Trackrock Hammer-in
Hey Folks,
It's time. May 1st and 2nd at the Trackrock Campgrounds in Blairsville, GA. For directions go to: www.trackrock.com Sorry about the short notice, but juggling to many hammers right now. Pretty much same format as past events with the addition, I hope, of a couple of stone knife knappers to demo their skills. See you there! __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H Last edited by Crex; 03-27-2004 at 06:45 AM. |

Ray - Just depends on which creekbank your standing on. I have always had a shining for your neck of the woods, but Mama got grandkids now, so there ani't gonna be no moving. You could call it a business trip and get Sandy to make you up a bunch of sheaths. I'm sure he'd love to dress that antler handled knife you recently posted.
Terry - There's a lake right down the hill but you'll have to run fast to beat the heat curve. How long or deep a tank would you need? We've gotten pretty good at improvising. Ken - You coming in your "space pod" again this time? Looking forward to seeing you friend. How's the HF anvil holding up? __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Hi,
Yes, have pod, will travel. The HF anvil is doing well. I got another one for my kid. You will see it and the stump once again. Do you want the torch again? I can put it back in the pod if you like. I plan on the small vertical forge that you saw last time. I have grown really fond of it. Liked it so well I am making one for my kid also. I plan on getting in Friday and leaving Sunday. What goodies should I bring for the Friday supper? Or Sat one? Who knows, I might find some interesting road kill. Enjoy, Ken PS: Have you hear from Hillbillychuck(Charles)? He mentioned a few months ago that he is coming. I hope to catch the Sandy tour this time around. __________________ Ken Simmons ABANA, ABS, GCKG, NCCKG Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on the menu. Liberty is a well-armed sheep. |

I am planning on bieng there as of now Hopefully will have something interesting for you Ken. I have often thought of getting one of those HF anvils for traveling. How well do they bounce a hammer?
Stone knife knappers.................Now THAT will be cool  Will there be any extra stone there for us iron agers to try our hands? I've heard that you can do that with the glass from a bottle too. Ya know a lot of the guys with Custer got shot with arrows that had nails and pieces of glass tipping them I'm still trying to get all the dang ideas worked out of my head and into my shop from the last hammer-in 8o Chuck |

Hey Crex,
Can an old grinder like me show up again? Can I hammer this time? I sure enjoyed the visit with all you guys last year. |

Ken - I guess Chuck answered your question. Looks like he might show up (sure hope so).
Mr. Carson - a gentleman such as you is always welcome. I'm pretty sure we can find a hammer that will fit your hand ok. Hey Chuck, you want to pass along the date to your dad? I've mispalced his email address (along with a few others). __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Chuck - It is not as hard as I would like but it is slowly workhardening. It has roughly 75% rebound. Better than roofing but not as good as a Mankel. I like it since I need an anvil that I can carry around and will catch the dings from when I am not striking too good. Besides, $85 for a steel 110 lb anvil.
Crex - Food and Torch? Everyone - Had a great time last year. I am looking forward to seeing you again this year. Enjoy the trip, Ken __________________ Ken Simmons ABANA, ABS, GCKG, NCCKG Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on the menu. Liberty is a well-armed sheep. |

Bro,
Don't cry man, move! (Sorry, couldn't help it). You'll be sorely missed for sure. We'll snap the tip off one for you. Hey guess what? My knuckle's grown back and not even a decent scar, and to think Chuck wanted to slap hot iron on it! Ken - don't worry about the torch unless you just want to. I'm good to go as is. Thinking about "covered dish" dinner for all the over-nighters. Getting the methodology worked out with a little help from the missus and will let those interested know as soon as possible what kind of dish to bring. Still playing with the saturday lunch thing but will have it figured out soon. Thinking Mediterranian Chili, bread and tea right now (easy and fast). __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

I'll be there in spirit. I hope everyone takes a bunch of pictures. I would probably have to be more of a spectator than anything else. I think I may had done bad things to my shoulder banging on that large hunk of steel Saturday night. We'll see.

Mark, Thats what hammers are for, you don't need to use your shoulder. All kiding aside, sorry to hear that. All the banging I've done my shoulder has never bothered me but there's been plenty of times I wish I was amperdexterous. I'm not even sure if I could even hit the anvil going lefty.......
Did you get the saw steel? |

Hey Ray,
I'll be going down this coming w/e to coordinate with picking up some casting stuff from another maker. I've got my fingers crossed. It's a shame you couldn't come to the hammer-in. Crex is a steel scrounger extrordinare. If nothing else it will still be good steel at a minimum. Everywhere I go I keep my eyes peeled for big blades. You know that somewhere there is probably a good supply of the good stuff just rusting away. Did you get the one I sent the link on? Mark __________________ I am smiling |
