My first Commissioned Knife

So an online friend of mine wanted a 10" Chef's knife, and tapped me to make it. I was, of course, honored. After finding out what kind of budget he had, and what kind of handle material/color he wanted, I produced this:

Stock removal method, using an old used factory saw blade. Handle is Black/Green G10, with Brass pins.

Came in under budget as well.

I also learned a valuable lesson when it comes to custom orders....Clients don't always give you the information you desperately need when it comes to designing the blade and handle.

One, didn't know he has giant Sasquatch size hands, so he was busting his knuckles when chopping.

Two, he likes what he calls a "French" handle, one that's narrower at the front and wider at the back.

Three, he wants a sharper tip.

So, he's shipped it back to me and I'm making some handle mods. But he's very happy with its cutting and edge holding capabilities.

Tools used: 6" bench grinder, 4x36" Belt sander, Dremel tool, various hand files, sandpaper, and a boatload of hand sanding and elbow grease.

Never thought that, after the accident, I'd be able to make knives again, outside of kit knives.

I found stock removal fun and rewarding, but still prefer to forge. Which I'll start doing in the Fall.

Comments welcome.

Looks good!
If that's any indication, I'm not surprised he asked you to make one for him.
