Alex and The Knife Network--Lest We Forget
This was originally posted on another thread, which some may or may not read, and I felt it should be presented to a wider audience.
Another thing regarding the CKD and Knife Network. When the aforementioned forum [the original Neo-Tribal forum] was destroyed due to some unfortunate internal feuding, Alex (Mr. Knife Network, then Mr. CKD) offered the remnants of our band a home on his network of forums. He allowed us to be self-governing as to content and approach, and has kept his word from the getgo. Hats off to Alex. He has been a good friend and ally, and one of the primary reasons this forum has endured and is here for us to share and learn. When we were in crisis and in danger of imploding, he believed in us and extended his hand. As time goes by, old hurts tend to be forgotten, and the reasons for being here tend to be taken for granted. It is good to remember your friends, and acknowledge them. Thanks again, Alex. Those of us here from the beginning haven't forgotten. |

How's about an Iron In The Hat, with everything going to Alex? We've had a lot of fun and learned alot over the years at his expense. I think it's about time he had a Neo-Tribal collection. If we do that, I'm in.

Alex, we need a shipping address.
I'll be happy to collect and ship en masse, not only because I'd like to handle an Outpost's worth of knives at once, but they really ought to be photographed together... Don't ya think?? |

I think it's a grand idea!

I wouldn't say that I'm really NT, or an Outpost member, but I am a KN member, and before that I was a CKD member. I would like to add my thanks to Alex, not only for the Outpost, but for the entire CKD/KN. What these two sites have meant to the custom knife world, custom knife makers, and knifemaker wannabes is immeasurable.
Hats off to Alex. He's really busted his butt to get custom knifemaking out there into the spotlight. I think he's done a swell job. I don't to neo-tribal stuff, but if y'all do something for Alex, I'll contribute what I can. |

Agreed. I've got an address for Alex, so that's covered. Something along the lines of utility or using knives made in each person's particular style? Sound good? I'm open for suggestions.

Very good words Dana. Alex really went the extra mile in helping me set up my web site, and impressed me with his good cheer and competence, not to mention his work ethic. He keeps things humming right along here for sure.

OK, it seems like most of us are on the same page. I'll give Chris a break, and host this one. This will be a voluntary IITH, with all knives going to Alex, in thanks to him for his friendship and support--and also, because he's a heck of a nice guy.
Let's just say make a knife. Plain or fancy, your call. I'm shooting for a utility-type knife, bigger than a neck knife and smaller than a camp knife, but I really wouldn't fault anybody if they made either a neck knife or a camp knife. Make it in your own style and own way. No rules here--its the spirit behind it that counts. But do take this seriously. Sign up only if you are going to follow this through to the end, OK? Let's set a Thanksgiving Day drawing date--seems appropriate, with all knives sent to Alex by Dec. 5th. I'll get his address to you later. To sign up, send an e-mail to: ironinthehat@yahoo.com When you send the e-mail, give your name, forum nickname if any, and your valid e-mail address. Do not use the sign up names topic to do so. Use only the e-mail address given above. I'll post the names of participants. |

Dana - why not make it a sticky? - we can unstick it later after the knives are all in and delivered.
We can make the "participant post" a sticky too..... __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher.
