Small propane forge question
Ok I had a question about these small coffe can or 2 brick propane foreges that I keep seeing.
How are you controlling the temp in side the forge? Is it by adjusting the blower on the torch or the inflatable mattress blower? I'm looking to buy some 1080+ from alpha again and the heat treating instruction are pretty simple. I just want to make sure I'm getting the forge and blade to the right temp during the process because this will be my first attempt at heat treating. Also does anybody recommend using one of those electronic inferred temp guns? Thank you. |

I would go with the coffee can forge because the ceramic matting liner is a bit more robust than the soft insulating brick and will have to be rebuilt less often. If you are using a blown burner with a mattress blower you control the temperature of the forge by adjusting the gas flow from the tank and a gate valve on the air line. If you are going to run a venturi burner you will have to adjust the temperature by adjusting the gas flow at the regulator on the tank or a choke plate on the air intake. If you are using a propane torch on a small take like for brazing and soldering then you are pretty much stuck with regulation the temperature with the flame adjustment knob on the torch.
