The RMK Carving Set

After searching both the Randall Knives forum and gallery I found narry a picture of the venerable Randall Carving Set. Here, then, is the first (and hopefully not the last) picture of what is at once the neglected child in the Randall family AND the first Randall knife many non-knife folks get to see. With Thanksgiving coming up, what better way to share the Randall enthusiasm in a way people can understand than to get out the old (or new, as this set is) RMK carving set and slice/serve up that ham, turkey or whatever.

Very nice. I have my own set coming from Nordic Knives in April of next year. I'm looking forward to them.

That's a beautiful set, Buddy!

My wife and I would love to have a carving set, but we've noticed that it is difficult to obtain one with attractive and matching stag on all three pieces. No doubt this reflects the embargo caused shortage.

We're going to keep looking for a set that suits our tastes. In the mean time I've got a rusty Boy Scout folder for our carving needs...

Gary, I don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm, and I hope your set will be a winner too.

Cheers!

Moosehead

Hey Tom,
Retail (what I paid) is $370 for the set including knife, fork, steel and nice canvas reinforced purple felt wrap case with tie strings and that cool Randall patch on the flap. Not cheap but, IMO, not expensive for what you get. I used the set tonight actually and carved up a big flank steak. I tell you, that knife is really nice - perfectly balanced for such a long blade. I like the carving set a lot!

Of all of my Randalls, I use the carving set the most! I got mine from Steve Peters about 3 years ago, (my 1st Randall). Only have had to "touch it up" a few times, and its just like new!

I too agree, how well balanced it is. It sure is fun using!

RedElk, Your wait will go fast, and it will be Worth It!

Very nice Buddy! I do a lot of window shopping for them but haven't got one yet.

I have a question about your avatar. It looks to be someone slashing a plastic jug of water. What is it actually?

Seussbrother,
That's Reggie Barker winning the World Championship ABS Cutting Contest Finals (for the second time in a row) in Atlanta at the BLADE show this past June. He's cutting 5 watter bottles clean through in one swipe. I photographed this event for BLADE magazine and the American Bladesmith Society Journal. What you see there is a sequence of 4 images shot @ 8 frames per second and linked together with some specialized software to make an animated (.gif) file. I'll send you a link to a larger version if you like if you will send me a PM in this forum or an e-mail - the reason being that I'm traveling just now and can't access the file I'd want to send. BTW, those images can be seen in the (?) October issue of BLADE.

I'm still kicking myself for passing on a used, matching carving set back in the mid 90's.
